July 18th, What I know about my Mother-in-Law
She made great lasagna. My husband loves lasagna- let me rephrase that- he loves his mom’s lasagna. On his mission he came across a person who made lasagna that tasted like the recipe his mom prepared and was so happy.
She was sincere. She would compliment her children and mean it. Mike says she always told him he was so handsome. He would wait around a corner or nearby and listen for her to say the same compliment to the other children but she never would. She did not go “through the motions” with each child. Each child was different and unique therefore her praises were different and unique.
She was appreciative. At her funeral there was an “In Appreciation” note that expressed thanks to the people in her life. My favorite part is in her own words:
“I always said that I would rather have cancer than rotten kids! I am so grateful that my children are all wonderful people who showed me love and lived their lives in such a way that they brought me joy and happiness. Thank you Shelly for coming and taking care of me when I really needed you. Thank you to the boys for your phone calls, advice, and words of encouragement.
Thank you to Dean most of all for being so patient and understanding when you had to give up so much of your normal life to take care of me. Thank you for loving me when I became more and more funny looking and for making me so happy and our lives so much fun.
The last thank you goes to my Heavenly Father and my Savior, Jesus Christ. They have blessed my life with peace and comfort throughout all of my illness so that I did not feel afraid. I know that I will be returning to live with them and that I will be reunited with all of my family and friends.”
She taught this virtue to her children as well. They would write notes to their teachers and bus drivers to show gratitude.
She was in the army, so she says. One thing I learned about while traveling with Mike to Idaho this past winter was Ostergar Humor. It is a mixture of “joshing” you and corniness. I love it. One of Ruth’s sayings was, “Let me show you a trick I learned in the army,” and then she would perform a task.
She loved to write and tell stories. Mike is lucky enough to have some of his mother’s writings on our computer and we also have recordings of her reading stories and singing songs to Nicole and Ryan.
She taught and prepared her daughter to be a wife and mother well. Although I tease sometimes, I really do love my sister-in-law Shelly. She is wonderful stay-at-home mother. Her children know she loves them. I think she makes her mother very proud with how sensitive and caring she is towards others. One of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me came from Shelly. Right before I married Michael she told me how much she wished her mom could be there and said, “She would have loved you!”
I think Dean said it best when he said to me regarding Ruth, “She was a big part of a lot of people’s lives.”

July 6- July 12, Five Things about Caleb
Number 1: He has really cute feet
Number 2: Not a light sleeper
and daddy takes advantage of that! (And, yes, those are Mike's creations.)
Number 3: Enjoys watching you eat
don’t know if it is curiosity or desire but he keeps his eyes glued to the spoon!
Number 4: Does not like the pacifier (binkie)
I had to record this moment when Caleb actually took the binkie! It was short-lived.
Number 5: Loves to Razz and, well, hiccup.
All day long Caleb razzes… even when Caleb cries he is razzing. Razz this, razz that, it never stops… unless he starts hiccupping. Those of you who were around me while I was pregnant have probably felt Caleb hiccup and now that he is out of the womb the habit is hard to kick.

July 4, Caleb says "Hi."
Now we know many of you will not believe this BUT IT IS TRUE!
Yesterday morning, around 6:00 am, I passed Caleb off on Mike. Right before going to sleep I thought I heard Caleb says "Hi", not once, not twice but three times! When I woke up I asked Mike about it (thinking it had been a dream), and he confirmed what I heard!
OUR BABY IS AMAZING!

June 29- July 5
The picture scrap is dedicated to Mike this week. You see, one of the saddest things of being a new parent has to be growth spurts. The baby is very needy and uncomfortable for a few days and at the end- you have to retire cute outfits, knowing very well if you ever want to use them again you'll need another baby.
WHY I LIKE DIGITAL SCRAPBOOKING...
I consider myself a "crafty" person, not secret-combinations-crafty mind you, but I like to do cutsey stuff every now and again. The problem is- I MAKE MISTAKES, and mistakes take up your resources.
When using a program like Photoshop to scrapbook, I can make mistakes and then undo them without using white-out, wasting paper or ruining photographs. You can find free digital scrapbooking elements online like at shabbyprincess.com or other websites.
HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!
This past week Caleb grew A LOT, and out-grew one of Mike's favorite outfits: Caleb's car jumper. This made Mike sad, so I thought I would take some pictures of Caleb, take a few of them and make the following picture scrap.
Caleb is now wearing 3-6 month old clothing! It only took him 14 weeks to get there! It seems like it was just yesterday he could barely fit into his Newborn stuff.
Regardless of his size he is still our little buddy.

Exciting things are happening this month!
- Shelly's Birthday was the 1st
- Fourth of July
- Brent is getting married on the 10th! To Andrea nonetheless, which is a big bonus! We really like Andrea! We were about to make a deal and trade Brent for her.
- Angela's Birthday is the 19th
- Angela's Rebirthday is the 20th- celebrating 5 yrs of being a member of the Church!
- Caleb will be 4 months old!
- Angela finally gets to visit the Boston Temple (that will be 8 temples I've been through!)
